Accessibility Statement

We want United Farmers Market to be usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or reduced-motion settings. Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The site is actively audited against that target but is not certified. If something does not work for you, email us the page URL and we will fix it.

What we aim for

• Keyboard navigation. Every link, button, menu, and form on the site can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone.
• Skip link. A "skip to content" link is the first focusable element on each page, so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the header.
• Visible focus. The element that has keyboard focus is clearly outlined.
• Alt text on all photographs. Every photograph has alt text written by an editor that describes what is in the picture, not just the article topic.
• Reduced motion. Where the site animates anything, it respects your operating system's reduced-motion setting.
• Semantic structure. Pages use a single main heading, ordered subheadings, landmarks, lists, and tables with header cells so that assistive technology can present the structure of a page.
• Readable text. Text can be resized in your browser, and color contrast is checked against the AA thresholds.
• No third-party scripts. Apart from optional, cookie-free analytics, the site loads no third-party scripts, which keeps pages light and predictable for assistive technology.

Tables, recipes, and long guides

Comparison tables are kept to a few columns so they fit on a phone and read sensibly in a screen reader. Longer guides include a table of contents built from the article's headings. Recipes are structured as ingredient lists and numbered steps.

Known limitations

• Photographs come from open-license sources and sometimes contain text (a chalkboard price list, a sign) that alt text summarizes rather than transcribes in full.
• Some linked external documents, such as state statutes and agency PDFs, are outside our control and may not be accessible.
• We are a new site and we audit as we go. Some pages may have issues we have not found yet.

How we test

The site is actively audited against WCAG 2.2 AA as pages and features are built. We have not been certified by a third party and we do not claim full conformance; we claim a target and an ongoing effort to meet it.

• The URL of the page.
• What you were trying to do.
• What happened instead.
• The browser and assistive technology you were using, if you know them.

Accessibility reports are treated as bugs to fix, not feedback to file. If a problem blocks you from reading an article, tell us and we will find another way to get you the content.
